Hemiparesis

Weakness on one side of the body.

Hypertension

Medical condition in which the blood pressure is chronically elevated.

Incontinence

Involuntary discharge of urine or feces.

Ischemia

A restriction in blood supply.

Myocardial Infarction

Commonly known as a heart attack, occurs when the blood supply to part of the heart is interrupted.

Nystagmus

A form of involuntary eye movement that is part of the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR). It is characterized by alternating smooth pursuit in one direction and saccadic movement in the other direction.

Pathogenesis

Development of a disease and the chain of events leading to that disease.

Pons

A structure located on the brain stem that relays sensory information between the cerebellum and cerebrum.

Sickle Cell Anaemia

A blood disorder characterized by red blood cells that assume an abnormal, rigid, sickle shape.

Thrombus

The final product of the blood coagulation step in hemostasis, also known as a blood clot.

Visual Cortex

Refers to the primary visual cortex andis anatomically equivalent to Brodmann area 17.

Wernicke’s Area

Area on the temporal lobe, associated with Wernicke’s aphasia when damaged.
